Twigs
♥✕
The Internet has made it difficult to stay anonymous, but Twigs has succeeded in retaining her mysteriousness. Little is known about her, and apart from her Bandcamp, Tumblr, and Youtube-channel, she seems practically non-existent. Last summer she released a couple of songs and recently she released her first (self-titled) EP, which can be downloaded on her Bandcamp. Her EP starts off with the dark low vibrating ‘Weak Spot’, to turn more sensual in the following songs thanks to the R&B-like vocals. These vocals are layered by Twigs and form an instrument in their own. Combined with her minimalistic atmospheric electro-pop, Twigs can be seen as the female answer to James Blake, or a darker grown-up version of Grimes. Other names that come to mind are Charli XCX and Lykke Li. Listen here and decide for yourself:
